Jo Darton first encountered Trails Utah in 2015 at a Salt Lake County Open Space meeting where she was advocating for more open space and trails in the southwest corner of Salt Lake County.
As the Chair of the Herriman Trails Committee, Jo helped drive the creation of trails in the Herriman Hills. The Herriman Trails Committee partnered with Trails Utah in 2017 to raise funds for the MoJo and Hardlick trails. After co-writing several grants and a 2020 pandemic fundraising blitz, Jo’s relationship with Trails Utah was solidified. These efforts also led to the realignment and building of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail in Herriman. Jo also helped spearhead and design the Butterfield Trail system in Salt Lake County.
She serves on the Board of the Utah High School Cycling League as a Coach Representative and is a Head Coach for the Mountain Ridge High School mountain bike team. Trail building and use is an integral part of Jo’s life. When not advocating for trails, she spends most of her free time recreating on trails.
Jo loves to mountain bike, hike and backpack with her family. She and her family try to camp at a different National Park every summer. Jo strongly feels that being outdoors on trails “is good for what ails ya.” She is looking forward to helping Trails Utah bring more trails to communities and to improve trails that are already here.
