Since moving to Utah in the early 90’s, Wally has grown to love the Wasatch for its seasonal beauty, close proximity to trails, and diverse recreational opportunities. Access to the plethora of trails was never an issue until Wally became wheelchair-dependent following a spinal cord injury in 2002. He is an avid mountain biker and skier who uses innovative adaptive equipment to enjoy the outdoors with his friends and family. Wally has spent the past 15-20 years trying to get farther and higher into the mountains. The improvement in mobility equipment has made a huge difference, but without accompanying trail modifications, many limitations still exist.
Wally’s goals with Trails Utah are to assess local existing and future trails, provide suggestions for improving accessibility, and increase community awareness of the expanding presence of disabled outdoor enthusiasts.
