Trails Utah has developed a partnership with the US Forest Service (USFS) and Salt Lake County to completely revamp the Silver Lake Loop Trail in Big Cottonwood Canyon, which is located in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. This trail is the most heavily visited point of interest in the Wasatch Mountains and the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest.
USFS is already working on replacing the boardwalk section of the 0.9-mile loop. Trails Utah will be refurbishing the natural surface sections of the trail at the southern and eastern trail segments. We will also replace the disintegrating handrails and wooden retaining walls with stacked rock.
Since the Silver Lake Loop Trail is the only ADA-accessible trail in the Wasatch, the trail tread will be designed and installed to accommodate wheelchairs and other adaptive modes of non-motorized transport. We are pleased to announce that construction for this fully funded project is slated to begin in Spring 2023.
